The OPM3®-Analysis (Organizational Project Management Maturity Model) is a standard which is issued by the largest organization in project management worldwide, the PMI®. OPM3® defines project management with the help of so-called „Best Practices“. There are about 600 practices which are proven and recognized processes. They make a decisive contribution to a lasting and repeatable project success.

These practices depend on each other in a three-dimensional model:

  • Areas „Projects“, Programs“ and „Portfolio“
  • Maturity levels „Standardization“, „Measuring“, „Controlling“ and „Continuous Improvement“
  • Process groups „Initiation“, „Planning“, „Executing“, „Controlling“ and „Closing“

OPM3® is an instrument which helps organizations to introduce and optimize project management processes. On the basis of the 600 practices you get an estimation of your current maturity level. Following that a register of the best practices and competences is drawn up to find a way to improvement.
It is a very elaborate and extensive tool for the detailed identification of the PM maturity level of your organization. The model is especially suitable for you if you have already well established PM systems and are interested in fine-tuning them.
