Recertification
Expand your skills as a project manager and gain important PDUs at the same time
In order to ensure the ongoing professional development of Project Management Professionals (PMPs) and to make certain that the PMP® certification remains current, certification as a PMP is only valid for 3 years. During these 3 years you need to renew your entitlement to certification through active project management work (Continuing Certification Requuirement Programme, CCR). Renewing the PMP status requires that you received 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) within the three year time period.
A typical and useful option for acquiring PDUs is through project management-related development. Our seminar curriculum takes into consideration the needs of experienced project leaders and we have developed seminars with which you can obtain the necessary PDUs whilst simultaneously enriching your abilities as a project leader. All of our seminars are based on PMI standards and thus compliment your project leadership development perfectly.

Frequently asked questions on the PMP® recertification:
How do I gain recertification?
In order to be able to permanently guarantee your PMP status, you must be recertified as a PMP every three years.
This requires verification of continuous involvement in PM – e.g. in the form of self-selected training units which
pertain to PM subjects. PMPs must collect a minimum of 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) during a period of
three years in order to obtain their recertification.
How do I calculate the duration of my certification?
So far the following rule was valid: The first CCR cycle begins on the date of your initial certification and expires on 31 December of the third full calendar
year after the first year of certification.
(E.g. somebody who passed his exam on August 1, 2003 was certified until December 31, 2006 and had to prove 60 PDUs until that point in time to prolong his certification
until December 2009.)
From the beginning of August, 2008 there is a new rule valid. The PMP certification will then be valid until 3 years after the exact day of the passing of the exam.
(e.g. if somebody has passed his exam on October 2, 2008 recertification is due on October 1, 2011).
Transition Rule:
For all certified PMPs who have passed their exam or recertification before the end of August 2008, there is a transition rule. It says that the duration of their
certification is prolonged in every case. In addition to the previously valid 3 years those days and months will be added until the exact deadline of the day you
passed the exam is reached. So, you do not lose time, but your certification will last longer in any case. (For the person in our first example this means:
Recertification is due on July 31, 2010.) As a member you will be separately informed by PMI.
What is a PDU?
A PDU is a measured unit for the evaluation of development and professional activity in the field of project management. One typically gains one (1) PDU for every hour of planned and structured development work or a similar activity.
How can I earn PDUs?
PMI differentiates between 5 categories of activities for which one can acquire PDUs: Category 1: formal development or training Category 2: employment or professional activities Category 3: courses from trainer providers registered with the PMI Category 4: courses from other providers Category 5: support from professional or charitable organisations. You can find further information under www.pmi.org in the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Program Handbook
How do I register my PDUs with PMI?
As a PMP, you are personally responsible for registering you activities with the PMI. A simple online reporting option is available on the PMI website for this. You should create a Development Program file, in which you collect verification of your registered project management activities. PMI conducts random sample checks of PMPs every year to ensure that the documents provided are complete and correct. All documents must thus be stored for a minimum of 12 months.
