PMP Exam
Do you really fulfil the prerequisites of the Project Management Institute?
To be eligible for the “Project Management Professional” PMP credential, each candidate has to prove three elements of professional competences and has to adhere to a code of ethics:
1. Several years of practical experience in project management
Category 1
You have a university degree (bachelor, diploma or M.A.)
You can prove at least 36 (non-overlapping) months of project management leadership
experience* within the last 8 years.
You can verify 4500 hours of project management leadership experience * on all
PMBOK® Guide process groups (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling
and Closing).
Category 2
You have no university degree but high school diploma, secondary school finals or
a similar school leaving certificate.
You can prove at least 60 (non-overlapping) months of project management leadership
experience * within the last 8 years.
You can verify 7500 hours of project management leadership experience * on all
PMBOK® Guide process groups (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling
and Closing).
2. Education or training in project management
When applying for the PMP, each candidate has to be able to prove at least 35 hours of project management training or theoretical education. This has to touch all process groups and knowledge areas of the PMBOK® Guide. You can get these 35 hours through our PMP Preparation Course. But any other project management seminar which you have visited in the past counts as well.
3. Sound know-how in project management in theory and practise
This will be confirmed by PMI in a very demanding test. Candidates have to answer 200 questions on all areas of project management within four hours. The exam is organised centrally by PMI and can be done any time in one of the prometric testing centers nearby your place.
4. Ethically correct behaviour as project manager
A PMP is expected to behave ethically correct according to the standards of PMI at any time. This concerns many different areas such as the behaviour during conflicts of interests. The knowledge of these standards is being checked in the test as well. A violation against these rules can lead to a loss of the status PMP.
If you have decided to become a PMP, please download the current version of the Credential Handbook on PMI's website . It contains all relevant information on application, eligibility criteria and costs.
* Project management leadership experience means the executing and controlling of projects with the following aspects
(according to PMBOK):
