In order to ensure the continous and professional development of project management professionals (PMPs)® and Certified Associates in Project Management (CAPMs)® and to keep the certification up to date, the certification op PMP® is only valid for 3 years and of CAPM® 5 years.

 

If you are CAPM® you have the chance to recertify yourself after 5 years by passing the examination once again. Normally the certification for PMP® is the next step of development..

 

If you are PMP® you have to renew your claim of certification within 3 years by active occupation in project management. For the renewal of the PMP®status it is necessary to get at least 60 Professional Development Units ('PDUs) within this period of time.

How can I recertify myself?
In order to keep the PMP® status durably, it is necessary for your as PMP® to run through a recertification in a period of three years. It is needed that PMP®s collect at least 60 PDUs over a period of 3 years to get extended their certification.


What is the definition of PDU?
A PDU is a measurement to access the further training and professional experience based on the field of project management. You will get typically one (1) PDU for one hour planned and structured activity of training or similar work.


For what will I get PDUs?
PMI® divides between 5 categories of work with 18 subcategories in total for which you can get PDUs:
Categorie 1: Formal education and training
Categorie 2: Professional and business activities
Categorie 3: Courses of PMI® registered suppliers
Categorie 4: Courses of other suppliers
Categorie 5: Support of professional and charitable organizations

At 01. März 2011 the PMI® changed the categorization of Professional Development Units (PDUs). The 18 categories were reduced to 6 and new limits were established.

The new categories are devided into two sections: Lessons and project management profession.

The following subjects belong to the section education:

  1. Training by Registered Education Providers (like PS-Consulting) or PMI® Chapters
  2. Continous training (e.g. by university or no-registered suppliers)
  3. Preparation by yourself (e.g. by activies in research, reading of books, articles, etc.)

Zum Gebiet PM-Profession gehören:

  1. Creation of new know how of project management (e. g. by giving talks or publish articles)
  2. Work at PMI® or PMI®-organisation of a honorary basis (e.g. in Chapters of PMI)
  3. Practical work as project leader or project manager (5 PDUs each year for at least 6 month)
In this part the sum of max. 45 PDUs pro cycle can be registered. The reason for this is that PMI® like the permanent qualifying in project management of the ownder of certification.


How can I register my PDUs at PMI®?
As PMP® you are responsible for communicate your activities at PMI® zu melden. The easiest way is to use on the website of PMI® the opportunity of online-reporting. It is recommended to open a file of development program in which you collect the documents of the reported activities of management.

PMI® will make spot tests at PMP®s chosen at random, in order to check the accuracy and completeness of the handed documents. For this reason all documents should be stored at least 12 month.

 

How can supply PMI® with PDUS of PS Consulting?

How can I calculate the duration of my certification?
The PMP®-certification is always exactly valid 3 years valid after passing the examination. (e. g. the recertification is due on 01. October 2013 by passing the examination on 02. October 2010).
If you are member of PMI® you will get the information of PMI® personally. It pays to start with collecting of the PDUs early.
